The Atlas Fondry
Marion, Indiana
The energy audit for this 90,000 square foot foundry, constructed in 1893, identified several energy conservation opportunities. These included variable frequency drives, makeup air replacement, plant-wide demand control, melt furnace heat reclaim, and air compressor heat reclaim. The implementation of these modifications resulted in a 1.7 year payback (59% return on investment). The annual energy cost was reduced from $934,780 to $841,873, a savings of $92,581 or approximately 10%.
